Hindu Mythology

In Hindu mythology, Mount Kailash is believed to be the residence of Lord Shiva and his consort, Goddess Parvati. According to the legend, Lord Shiva performed the cosmic dance of creation, preservation, and destruction on the summit of Mount Kailash. It is also believed that the mountain is the origin of the holy river Ganges. Buddhist Mythology

In Buddhism, Kailash is known as Kang Rinpoche, which means “Precious Snow Mountain.” It is believed to be the abode of the Buddha Demchok, who represents supreme bliss. Jain Mythology

According to Jain mythology, Ashtapada is also the place where Adinatha, the first Tirthankara, taught his disciples. In the Bon religion, which is the indigenous religion of Tibet, Kailash is considered the center of the universe and the place where their founder, Tonpa Shenrab, descended from heaven to earth. The Bonpo believe that the mountain is the abode of the gods and spirits and that it is surrounded by eight other mountains, representing the eight directions. The sacred Lake Mansarovar, located near Mount Kailash, is believed to have been created by Lord Brahma, the creator of the universe. It is said to be the source of spiritual energy and is believed to wash away sins and purify the soul.
